The Minneapolis based dancer Julia Tehven commissioned me to choreograph a solo for her, through an Artist Fellowship from the Twin Cities based McKnight Foundation.  When I met Julia, we quickly found some common ground in terms of subject matter; I decided to make the dance based on Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and to show the events leading up to her tragic drowning (which we only hear about in the original play.)  MrsHamlet, set to the music of Arvo Part, premiered at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis in May of 2006.
